“In olden times, when magic still lived in the air, there lived a master toymaker and his wife… The toymaker was known far and wide for the beautiful toys he made, each lovingly carved by hand.  Once he had finished his work, he would pack up an old canvas sack, throw it over his shoulder and travel to markets and country fairs where townsfolk bought his toys as gifts for their excited children.”

As time went on it was clear that he and his wife Mary would not be blessed with children of their own but Mary noticed that many families in their local village struggled to provide toys for their children at Christmas and she had an idea…

This is a charming olde-worlde story for Christmas that tells how the toymaker and his wife, with the help of two elves called Sage and Eeko, began to secretly give children joy at Christmas and from not being parents themselves still became Father and Mother Christmas to children all around the world.  Beautifully illustrated and presented, it is a longer story than most for a picture book format that would make a delightful read-aloud over several nights for the very young and those-who-believe.
